• It’s a tale about somebody else, but you keep having thoughts about yourself. Why is that?
• Despite his non-stop thinking and his messy moods, Eddie is basically a happy man. A lot of people will never forgive him for that. Others will envy his brains, exotic education, colorful friends, limping honesty and occasional mouth.
Audience Appeal
• But everybody will have to take on Eddie-the-theologian, who thinks much of our language about God is nutty, if not insulting to God, and thinks he knows why. So Eddie is going to solve the problem, right? Dream on.
• There’s something addictive about reflecting on the present snarly status of the Catholic Church vis-a-vis just about everybody else. But by revisiting scenes from the decades that led us to this point, people can reminisce or get mad all over again, rekindle warm feelings or crow their disappointment, tell young people what it was like or sit there wondering where it’s all going.
